TIME OUT: Crying Girl on ‘TIME’ Cover ‘NEVER SEPARATED’ from Mother Says Border Agent
The iconic ‘crying girl’ image featured on TIME Magazine’s cover to highlight the issue of “family separation” was never -in fact- separated from her family, confirms the arresting officer and the photographer on the scene.
CBS News tracked down the Border Patrol Agent and the photographer to get the behind-the-scenes story of what led to the infamous photograph, with the officer saying the girl was separated from her mother for less than two minutes while he conducted a search.

“They’re using it to symbolize a policy, and that’s not the case with this picture. It took less than two minutes, and once the search was finished she picked the girl up, and the girl stopped crying,” added the agent.
