Birmingham Under "Shelter In Place" Order

Hoping to slow the spread of the coronavirus, Birmingham on Tuesday went under a "shelter in place" order. The council voted unanimously for an ordinance proposed by Mayor Randall Woodfin. "Shelter in place simply means to stay at home," Woodfin said. "Don't go out unless getting food, gas, or other essentials." Only essential businesses will remain open. Woodfin says outdoor activities that involve a single person such as walking, running or cycling are permitted. Activities that involve a group of people are prohibited. Police will enforce the order, which will remain in effect through April 3.
