Alabama Senator Opposes Abortion Ban

Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook) joined with other Democrats Tuesday to block the "Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act." Supporters say the measure prohibits abortion after 20 weeks, the age at which research suggests the unborn are capable of feeling pain. The bill needed 60 votes to proceed, but received 53. Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Tuscaloosa) voted in favor of advancing the measure. Alabama Republican Party Chairman Terry Lathan thanked Shelby, and blasted Jones, who she said is "completely out of touch with the majority of Alabamians."
