Homewood Fire Chief Dies

Longtime Homewood Fire Chief John Bresnan has died. Bresnan was found unconscious in his office on Friday afternoon, officials said. After efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful, Bresnan was rushed to Brookwood Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Bresnan joined the department in 1987, and served as chief since 1992.

Mayor Scott McBrayer released the following statement:

“Chief Bresnan was a good man and a great leader in our fire department. He served our city of Homewood and her residents with humility and distinction and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they go through a very difficult time.”
