Body Camera Shows Officer Stopping Girl From Jumping In Front Of Train

A police officer from Waukegan, Illinois is being hailed as a hero after he tackled a suicidal teenager who was walking toward an oncoming train. Police received a 911 call from the teenager's sister saying that she planned to kill herself by standing in front of a train.

Officers were able to ping the girl's cellphone to determine her approximate location. When they arrived at the area, they saw a train approaching but did not see the girl. When the crossing gates went down, the girl came out from behind a shed and started walking toward the tracks.

Officer Christopher Harris tried to get the girl to stop, but when she failed to listen to his commands, he jumped into action and tackled her seconds before the train came speeding through. She was taken to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

"I am extremely proud of these officers who, through their heroic actions, saved the life of a young woman," Chief Wayne Walles said. "I am just as proud of our dispatch professionals who utilized their resources to locate the area of where this young woman was and directed the responding officers to find her."
