Republican Mike Bolin won a seat on the Jefferson County Commission in a special election Tuesday. The former Alabama Supreme Court justice soundly defeated developer David Silverstein, who was backed by Democrats. Bolin took 59 percent of the vote in District 5, which includes Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Homewood, Mountain Brook and Leeds. The win maintains the commission's GOP majority.
