An Ice Storm Warning remains in effect for Pickens, Lamar, Fayette, Marion, Winston, and Cullman counties until 9 p.m. It means that the dominant form of precipitation will be freezing rain. Ice accumulation of a quarter to a half inch is possible in the warning areas. If this occurs, significant power outages, downed trees, and near-impossible travel is expected. A First Alert for travel conditions to remain horrible tonight and tomorrow morning as temperatures drop well into the teens. It may take until Wednesday in some places to rise above freezing.

A Winter Storm Warning continues for Jasper, Tuscaloosa, Sumter, Greene, and Hale counties until 9 p.m. The warning indicates the potential to see freezing rain with ice accumulations up to a tenth to a quarter of an inch. Difficult travel conditions are possible today and into tomorrow morning as residual moisture creates icy spots once the Arctic air arrives. A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect for Blount, Jefferson, Bibb, and Perry counties from 3 to 9 p.m. today. We could see minor icing develop on bridges and overpasses. Sidewalks could become slippery. Patchy areas of black ice will become likely as the sun sets and temperatures trend colder. Allow extra drive time in the morning to account for this potential threat.
