Alabama Senate Approves Medical Marijuana Bill

A bill legalizing medical marijuana Thursday passed the Republican-led state senate. The vote was 17-6. Supporters say the measure, sponsored by Sen. Tim Melson (R-Florence), will help patients who haven't benefited from traditional medical treatments. But opponents expressed concerns that people would abuse the exception, to obtain marijuana for recreational purposes. The bill now heads to the House.
