Alabama Lawmaker Under Fire Following Abortion Comments

A state lawmaker is under fire for comments about a bill restricting abortion. State Rep. John Rogers (D-Birmingham) -- who opposed the bill -- said during the floor debate: "Some kids are unwanted, so you kill them now, or you kill them later." Alabama Republican Party Chairman Terry Lathan called Rogers' comments "stunningly abhorrent and callous." Alabama Senate Majority Leader Greg Reed (R-Jasper) said the remarks are "chilling," and "should be condemned." Donald Trump Jr. tweeted that Rogers' comments are "stomach curling," and suggested that every Democratic presidential candidate should be asked whether they agree with the lawmaker. The bill, making abortion a felony in most cases, sailed through the state House this week and now awaits action by the Senate.
