Jeffco Deputies Rescue Abandoned Dogs

A dozen abandoned dogs were rescued from a busy road, authorities said.    A Jefferson County sheriff's deputy spotted the animals Sunday afternoon trying to cross Highway 78.    The deputy blocked a lane, and herded the dogs to the side of the road.  The animals were described as malnourished, but friendly.  Some more dogs were discovered along Birmingham-Jasper Road, and in the woods nearby.    The animals are now in the custody of the Greater Birmingham Humane Society.
