Cancer Scammer Sentenced

A Shelby County woman who falsely claimed to have terminal cancer, and asked people for donations, Wednesday was sentenced to two years in federal prison.   Jennifer Flynn Cataldo, 37, pleaded guilty to wire fraud and bank fraud.    U.S. Attorney Jay Town calls the woman's conduct "reprehensible."   Town says Cataldo allowed her own son to believe she was dying.   The scheme brought in more than $260,000.  She used some of the money to buy opioid painkillers without a prescription.  U.S. District Judge Virginia Emerson Hopkins also ordered Cataldo, of Sterrett, to pay about $80,000 in restitution to her victims.
