Major Meth Seizure in Shelby County

$240-thousand dollars worth of methamphetamine was seized in a drug investigation, investigators said Tuesday.   The Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force says more than 14 pounds of meth was shipped via parcel service from  a city located on the California border with Mexico.  Investigators say the met was found along Gould Rd. in Columbiana.  Agents arrested Silvano Guevara-Mata, who has a Jemison address.  He's being held on a $1 million dollar bond.    Lt. Clay Hammic, commander of the task force, says the case is expected to help identify key suspects in the trafficking of narcotics throughout the Birmingham metro.  “This was a unique investigation, which relied heavily on partnerships and relationships with other agencies and organizations.  I personally applaud the efforts of our SCDETF investigators for removing a significant amount of dangerous drugs from our communities.”
